West Virginia State University is looking for a new women's volleyball coach after Shannon Gerencir left WVSU after 14 seasons to become volleyball coach at Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania.

Gerencir was named West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference coach of the year in both 2005 and 2006, won WVIAC regular-season championships and NCAA Regional bids in 2006 and 2008 and the 2006 WVIAC tournament title. She also served as an assistant athletic director and State's senior women's administrator.

WVSU athletic director Nate Burton said Tuesday that a national search for a new coach began Monday. He plans to promote from within to fill the SWA role and will divide Gerencir's assistant AD responsibilities among the remaining staff. Burton recently promoted Sean McAndrews to assistant athletic director for NCAA compliance.

Gerencir replaced Dan Kreiger, who guided Lock Haven to a 21-13 record in 2015 but lost in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference quarterfinals to the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.
