West Virginia State coach John Pennington will be adding former West Virginia University running back Quincy Wilson to his coaching staff, the school confirmed on Monday night.

Wilson and Pennington were teammates at West Virginia, playing together for coach Rich Rodriguez from 2001-03. Wilson will be the Yellow Jackets' running backs coach after serving in the same position at Glenville State last year.

"Quincy is like a brother to me, and that's the beauty of football," Pennington said. "This was a no-brainer for us. He's a great guy and an outstanding coach.

"He's going to be great working with our running backs. He's been there, he's done it and he has great character. Having him on the staff will rub off on our guys and that will have a ripple effect on the way they play and how they develop into adults while they're here."

West Virginia State finished eighth in the Mountain East Conference in rushing a year ago, led by junior Juawan Etheredge's 574 yards and five touchdowns on 142 carries.

Wilson, a Weirton native, ran for 2,608 yards and 20 touchdowns in his career at WVU before being drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in 2004. Before joining the coaching staff at Glenville State, Wilson served as West Virginia's assistant director of football operations.

When Pennington was introduced as West Virginia State's head coach last week, he said he was hoping he would be able to fill his staff with coaches with strong roots in the state.

"It's my job to find the right people to bring in here and I have a great list of people that we're looking at with similar ties to myself," Pennington said. "That's typically what happens - you hire people that you trust and that you're loyal to and that have a similar background to you."
