Roundup: UC men blank Seton Hill in home opener

The University of Charleston’s No. 2-ranked men’s soccer team won its home opener on Wednesday night, defeating Seton Hill 3-0 at Schoenbaum Stadium behind three first-half goals.

Will Roberts got the Golden Eagles (5-0) on the scoreboard with a goal off an assist from Conor Branson with 20:14 left in the first half. UC added two more goals, one each by Lewis Osborne and Branson.

Felipe Antonio had two assists for UC, which outshot Seton Hill 27-2 overall and 9-0 with shots on goal. The Griffins are now 2-3-1.

BLACK BEARS WIN

The West Virginia Black Bears picked up a 3-1 win over the Staten Island Yankees on Tuesday night to claim the short-season Class A New York-Penn League Championship in the team’s inaugural season.

Casey Hughston launched a two-run home run in the ninth inning to break a 1-1 tie and provide the winning margin.

Carlos Munoz also homered for West Virginia.

Starting pitcher Dario Agrazal tossed five innings, giving up one run and striking out nine for the Black Bears.
