University of Charleston punter Brett Benes became the first Golden Eagle to be named to the American Football Coaches Association Division II All-America team.

Benes, a junior who also handled kickoff and place-kicking duties, helped UC to a 39.16 net punting average, second-best in the NCAA's Division II. He finished third nationally with 43.7 yards per punt, set a school record with a 71-yarder and twice recorded punts of at least 70 yards.

Of his 48 punts in 2015, 13 traveled at least 50 yards and 14 were downed inside the opponents' 20-yard line. The Golden Eagles finished the season at 10-2 and earned the first berth in the Division II playoffs in team history, falling to Indiana University of Pennsylvania in the first round.
