MEC football: Shepherd routs Fairmont, stays unbeaten

Mountain East Conference leader Shepherd remained unbeaten with a 41-14 win over Fairmont State Thursday night in Fairmont.

The Rams (9-0 overall, 9-0 MEC) clinched a share of the conference regular-season title and can cap off a perfect regular season with a home win over Urbana (2-8) on Nov. 14.

Shepherd quarterback Jeff Ziemba completed 14 of 21 passes for 217 yards, including touchdown strikes to Billy Brown (23 yards) and Angelo Jean-Louis (15 yards). Brown caught seven passes for 121 yards and Allen Cross led the Rams' ground game with 17 carries for 118 yards, including a 72-yard touchdown.

Jabre Lolley added two first-quarter rushing touchdowns for the Rams, covering 6 yards and 1 yard.

Fairmont State (5-4, 5-4) was led by receiver Brandon Boyd, who caught 10 passes for 142 yards and scored both Falcons touchdowns on passes from Cooper Hibbs, covering 27 and 22 yards. Hibbs was 16 for 38 through the air for 204 yards and was intercepted twice.

Austin White was the leading rusher for the Falcons, picking up 73 yards on 18 carries.

Glenville State 41, West Liberty 14: Dante Roberts completed 30 of 40 passes for 338 yards and three touchdowns as Glenville State (7-3, 6-3) picked up a road win at West Liberty.

Damon Lampkin led the Glenville receiving corps with seven catches for 106 yards, including a 50-yard touchdown, while Tevin Drake paced the Pioneers with 75 rushing yards on 17 carries. Glenville State amassed 507 total yards while limiting West Liberty (4-6, 4-5) to 239 yards.

West Liberty's Max Kapron scored on a 17-yard pass from Kakota Conwell late in the second quarter to cut Glenville State's lead to 24-14 at the halftime break, but the Pioneers outscored the Hilltoppers 17-0 in the second half to pull away.

Cromwell completed 17 of 28 passes for 162 yards and was also West Liberty's leading rusher, netting 35 yards on nine carries. Daree Goodwin had three catches for 62 yards for the Hilltoppers.
