Monica Carter smashed a three-run home run in the top of the fifth inning as the University of Charleston softball team eliminated Bloomsburg 5-3 Friday in the second round of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region 2 Tournament in Buckhannon.

The Golden Eagles (36-20) will take on Kutztown Saturday at noon. If UC wins against Kutztown, the Golden Eagles square off against West Virginia Wesleyan and will have to defeat the Bobcats twice in order to advance.

Wesleyan shutout UC 5-0 in Thursday's opening round.

UC starter Jessie Rowe (23-15) earned the win, allowing just three runs on nine hits and striking out one in a complete game.

Bloomsburg took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth when Holly Peacock hit a solo home run.

UC answered in the top of the fifth as Rachelle Toppings singled, stole second and moved to third on a double by Karli Pinkerton, setting up Carter's three-run shot.

The Huskies rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth to knot the score at 3, but UC took advantage of two Bloomsburg errors and a hit-by-pitch to take a two-run lead and claim the victory.

Peacock went 3 for 4 with a homer and an RBI and Mallory Tomaschik added two hits for the Huskies (31-20).
