Freshman pitcher J.J. Espy pitched seven scoreless innings to lead the Alderson Broaddus baseball team to a 6-1 win over the University of Charleston Monday evening at Triana Field.
Espy gave up three hits, three walks and struck out two to record the win. Cory Hayden and Mitchell Griffiths combined to pitch the eighth for the Battlers while Tyler Amedure closed the door in the ninth.
AB (20-16) opened up the scoring with four runs in the top of the first, including a three-run home run by Cody Cowart.
Andy Hoyer took the loss for UC (22-16) as he gave up eight hits and five runs in five innings.

SENIORS GOLF: Mark White of South Charleston fired a 1-under-par 69 on his home course playing to win the Silver Division of the West Virginia Golf Association Senior Series Monday at Berry Hills Country Club.
In the Senior Division, Timmy Mount of Huntington posted an even-par 70 to win the Senior Division and Bernie Eller of Charleston shot a 6-over 76 at his home club to take low gross in the Gold Division.
The next Senior Series tournament will take place April 26 at Greenhills Country Club in Ravenswood.

MARSHALL GOLF: The Marshall women's team finished round one of the Conference USA Championship in sixth place Monday at the Verandah Club in Fort Myers, Florida, shooting a 16-over-par 304.
Sophomore Sarfina Seretharan and junior Leigha Holt led the way for Marshall with each scoring a 3-over 75, putting them in a tie for 16th.
Old Dominion leads last year's champion Middle Tennessee by three strokes with a 289. Individually, Jenna Burris of Middle Tennessee has a 1-stroke lead over Old Dominion's Maggie Simmermacher. Burris finished with a 5-under 67 after the first round.

WVU BASEBALL: After leading the Mountaineers to a series win against No. 3 TCU last weekend, junior right-hander BJ Myers and freshman center fielder Brandon White have been recognized by the Big 12 Conference with weekly awards.
Myers was named the league's Pitcher of the Week while White was named the Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week. It is the second career Pitcher of the Week honor for Myers, who was also recognized last year, while White is earned Newcomer of the Week accolades for the first time.
Myers allowed just two earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts and a walk in 8 1/3 innings against TCU. White led the team with a .625 batting average (5 for 8), a .700 slugging percentage and two stolen bases against TCU.
