Terry Davis dropped in 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Glenville State put away West Virginia State 92-76 in men's basketball Saturday afternoon at the Waco Center in Glenville.
The Pioneers (7-6, 4-5 Mountain East Conference) stormed out to a 10-0 lead two minutes into the contest and never looked back, holding a 44-33 lead at halftime.
Jon Dunmyer hit 10 of 10 free throws and finished with 19 points, Brett Morris chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds and Micah Thomas tallied 11 points and three assists for Glenville.
DeQuan Doyle recorded a double-double to lead the Yellow Jackets (5-10, 2-7 MEC), racking up 21 points and 16 rebounds, while Terrance Jenkins added 14 points and eight boards. Also for State, Tyrie Elliott scored 12 points and Ernest Jenkins 11.

TECH MEN WIN: Elisha Boone put up 24 points and 11 rebounds as No. 25 WVU Tech took down Rio Grande 82-69 Saturday in Rio Grande, Ohio.
The Golden Bears shot a blistering 56 percent from the floor and scored 48 points in the paint to improve to 13-5 overall and 6-1 in the River States Conference.
Michael Scott contributed 15 points and eight rebounds for Tech.
Will Hill led Rio Grande (5-14, 2-5 RSC) with 23 points and Corey Cruse scored 21.

UC WOMEN LOSE: West Virginia Wesleyan spoiled the grand opening of the Wehrle Innovation Center as the Bobcats edged the University of Charleston 70-67 Saturday in Charleston.
Wesleyan opened the third quarter with a 14-7 run to overcome a 38-34 halftime deficit and take the lead for good. UC dropped to 5-10 overall and 4-5 in the MEC.
Lana Long led the Bobcats (5-7, 5-4 MEC) with 18 points and four assists, while Tara Goldman racked up 15 points and 10 rebounds and Mari Stewart and Rachel Vandertoolen each cashed in 13 points.
Jordyn Peck led UC with a game-high 25 points, hitting on 10 of 16 shots from the floor, and Myra Walker added 19 points. Abby Watson chipped in 10 points and five boards and Madison Jones recorded four points, five assists and five rebounds for UC.

STATE WOMEN LOSE: Glenville State drilled 26 3-pointers and had nine players score in double figures as the Pioneers ran past West Virginia State 138-85 Saturday afternoon at the Waco Center in Glenville.
Paris McLeod posted 22 points, seven rebounds and six assists to pace the Pioneers (13-2, 7-2 MEC), who took a commanding 76-51 lead at halftime. Erika Toney (19), Odyssey Trussell (15), Julie Bishop (14) and Brittany Jackson (14) also reached double-figure scoring for Glenville, and Courtney Davis added 11 points and 10 boards.
Sydney Bates tallied 13 points to lead the Yellow Jackets (7-8, 5-4 MEC), while Jasmine Davis (12 points, 10 rebounds) and Shealyn Shafer (11 points, 11 rebounds) each registered a double-double. Aurrshae Hines chipped in 12 points for State.

TECH WOMEN WIN: Cheyanna Lusk connected on six 3-pointers on her way to game-high 29 points as WVU Tech outlasted Rio Grande 86-72 Saturday in Rio Grande, Ohio.
Lusk made 10 of 14 from the field, including 6 of 9 from distance, and added seven reounds and three steals for the Golden Bears (12-6, 4-3 River States Conference). Savannah Shamblin scored 16 points and dished out 12 assists and Zjhane West donated 14 points and five dimes for Tech.
Jaida Carter and Jasmine Smith both netted 14 points to lead the Red Storm (12-7, 4-3 RSC).

PREP SWIMMING: George Washington swept both the boys and girls titles Saturday during the HYCAT January Invitational at the University of Charleston pool. Charleston Catholic swam second in both divisions of the 10-team meet (results, Page 2C).
For the Patriots boys, Robbie Hageboeck, Patrick Reed and Cameron Penn each led two events and each contributed two legs on winning relay teams. In the girls meet, GW's Karly O'Dell was the lone double winner, taking the 200-yard freestyle and 500 free.

WVU WOMEN LOSE: The WVU women's basketball team committed 21 turnovers as it dropped a 73-63 decision to Texas Saturday in the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown.
Joyner Holmes and Ariel Atkins each scored 15 points to lead the Longhorns (12-4, 6-0 Big 12), while Brooke McCarty chipped in 11 points.
Teana Muldrow tossed in a game-high 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Mountaineers (14-4, 2-4), and Tynice Martin fired in 14 points. Lanay Montgomery posted 12 points and 14 rebounds and Chania Ray scored 12 for West Virginia.
