West Virginia State was named by the NCAA to be a finalist for the 2017 Division II Award of Excellence.
A total of 24 schools, one from each conference and one independent were selected. The award honors positive campus and community engagement events hosted by the school during the year.
During April of 2016, State student-athletes completed over 500 hours of community service while also balancing academics and competing in a variety of different sports, including 22 softball games, 20 baseball games, six women's tennis matches, five men's tennis matches, and two men's golf tournaments.
