The University of Charleston men's basketball team dropped its first contest of the season Saturday in a 75-70 loss at Notre Dame in a Mountain East Conference game at South Euclid, Ohio.
UC drops to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while Notre Dame improves to 6-2 and 2-2.
The Golden Eagles led 39-38 at the half but couldn't hold on as Notre Dame's Will Vorhees poured in a team-high 22 points. Kyauta Taylor added 19 points and Ja'Sean Lewis 11 rebounds for ND.
For UC, Keir Anderson scored a game-best 23 points, with Elliott Cole contributing 19 points and Justin Coleman 15. Coleman also grabbed 11 rebounds.

UC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Jordyn Peck poured in 34 points to lead the Golden Eagles to a 65-61 win over Notre Dame College at South Euchlid, Ohio.
Peck shot 56 percent from the field for the Eagles (4-4, 3-1), including three from behind the 3-point line. Mya Walker added 10 points and Darian Apperson pulled down 10 boards to lead the team.
For Notre Dame (2-6, 1-3), Kelsey Miller led three players in double figures with 26 points, followed by Seina Adachi with 15 and Kim Cook with 14. Miller also had 14 rebounds.

WVSU WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Aurreshae Hines scored 29 points and West Virginia State topped Urbana 111-98 in women's basketball Saturday afternoon at Walker Convocation Center in Institute.
Hines added seven assists and made 9 of 10 attempts from the field to lead five Yellow Jackets in double figures. It was the third time this season that WVSU eclipsed the 100-point mark as the team improved to 3-1 in Mountain East Conference play and 4-3 overall.
West Virginia State got 22 points from Tatyana Reynolds in the victory, while Jasmine Davis, Shealyn Shafer and Amiea Summers scored 16, 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Urbana was led by Danie Shafer's 25 points and eight rebounds and Morgan Mattimore scored 21 with seven assists.

MARSHALL WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The Herd dropped a close game to Penn State Saturday, falling 82-80 in State College, Pennsylvania.
The Herd led by six points after the first quarter and by two at the half. However, Penn State (6-2) took a two-point lead going into the fourth quarter. After six lead changes and six ties, the Nittany Lions prevailed.
Redshirt junior guard Taylor Porter led the Herd (5-2) with a career-high 24 points. Talequia Hamilton added 13 and Shayna Gore 11 and a team-high seven rebounds.
Four Penn State players scored in double figures. Teniya Page poured in 31, followed by Shierra Moore with 19, Linsey Spann with 15 and Mitchell with 10. Spann also led the team with nine rebounds.
