After trailing by 17 points at halftime, the University of Charleston women's basketball team rallied back to top Concord, 67-63, on Monday night.
UC cut the lead to seven by the end of the third quarter and continued to fight back into the game until tying it at 60 with three minutes to play before Jordyn Peck hit a few key free throws down the stretch to help deliver the win.
Peck led the way for the Golden Eagles (2-4), scoring 24 points on 7-of-16 shooting and handed out five assists. Mya Walker and Abby Watson, who scored 13 and 11 points, respectively, joined her in double figures. Watson also grabbed 10 rebounds to complete her double-double.
Concord was led by Alexis Lowery and Alley Odell, who scored 12 points apiece.
UC will take the court again on Wednesday as it travels to take on Belmont Abbey College.

STATE WOMEN LOSE: Taylor Sandidge made two free throws in the final 15 seconds to help Virginia-Wise put away the West Virginia State women's basketball team 94-91 Monday evening in Wise, Virginia.
State led by as many as 15 with just under nine minutes remaining in the third quarter, but was unable to put the Cavaliers away.
Kayla Carey led Wise with 24 points and 12 rebounds, Makenzie Cluesman added 23 points and 11 boards and Sandidge finished with 12 points and eight assists for the Cavaliers (4-1, 2-0 MEC).
For State, Tatyana Reynolds buried six 3-pointers on her way to 20 points, while Aurreshae Hines had 20 points of her own. Sydney Bates scored 16 and Rachel Ward donated 10 for the Yellow Jackets (2-3, 1-1 MEC).

WVU FOOTBALL: West Virginia University quarterback Skyler Howard has been selected as one of 16 semifinalists for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, announced in 2012 by the Tyler Chamber and SPORTyler, recognizes the top offensive player in Division 1 football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity; specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.
In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four year D1 Texas college.
This year's candidates include nine quarterbacks, three running backs and four wide receivers. Seven different conferences are represented.
n The Big 12 Conference has announced that WVU's Saturday, Dec. 3 football game against Baylor at Milan Puskar Stadium will be televised on FS1 at 3:30 p.m.

WVU SOCCER: WVU women's soccer coach Nikki Izzo-Brown and her staff have been named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) central regional staff of the year.
A new award, Izzo-Brown, along with associate head coach Lisa Stoia and assistant coach Marisa Kanela, will be placed on the ballot for NSCAA National Staff of the Year consideration. The ballot also will include the addition of coaching staffs from any schools which advance to the semifinals of their NCAA Championship.
The Mountaineer coaching staff has led WVU to a program-record 21 wins and the program's first-ever national No. 1 ranking. WVU also swept the Big 12 Conference regular-season and championship titles for the third time in five seasons.
One of eight teams still standing in the 2016 NCAA Tournament, top-seeded WVU will host No. 14-ranked and third-seeded Duke in the quarterfinals Saturday at 3 p.m. at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown.

WVU WRESTLING: After downing a top-10 opponent this weekend, WVU's Jacob A. Smith has been named the Big 12 co-wrestler of the week.
It marks the third time in his career Smith has earned a Big 12 weekly award. He shares the honor with Jacobe Smith of Oklahoma State.
Ranked No. 9/10 at 197 pounds, Smith earned a 2-0 decision over No. 6 Aaron Studebaker in the Mountaineers' dual at No. 7 Nebraska Friday. The two previously met in the first round of the 2015 NCAA Championships, with Studebaker taking the win.

MEC HOOPS: West Liberty's David Dennis has been named the Mountain East Conference men's basketball player of the week, while Virginia-Wise's Kayla Carey took home the women's award.
Dennis, a sophomore from Ohio, paced the Hilltoppers to a pair of victories last week, averaging 17.5 points, eight assists, five rebounds and four steals. He opened the week with 15 points and nine assists in a non-conference win against Davis & Elkins, then scored 20 points to go with six assists and four steals as West Liberty opened up league play with a win over Notre Dame.
Carey, a senior from Tennessee, averaged 20 points and 12 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Cavaliers. She opened the week with 20 points and 17 rebounds in a non-conference win over Winston-Salem State, then poured in 20 more points on 9 of 14 shooting and grabbed seven more boards as Virginia-Wise opened league play with a win on the road at Charleston.

WVSU MEN WIN: Ernest Jenkins recorded a steal and nailed 2 of 3 at the line in the final five seconds to help the West Virginia State men's basketball team edge Virginia-Wise 78-76 Monday night in Wise, Virginia.
The Cavaliers' Michal Seals knotted the game at 76 with a jumper with 36 seconds left. Jenkins missed a potential game-winning 3, but stole the ensuing inbounds pass and was fouled, earning a trip to the charity stripe where he gave the Yellow Jackets the win.
Jayson Hankins paced State with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Brent Bauer added 15 points and eight assists. Jenkins and DeQuan Doyle each finished with 13 points and Tyrie Elliott scored 11 for the Yellow Jackets (2-2, 1-1 Mountain East Conference).
Dimitri Sousa led the Cavaliers (1-4, 0-2 MEC) with 24 points.
