The West Virginia State men's basketball team fell to Concord 92-82 Saturday at Concord.
Five players scored in double figures for the Mountain Lions (3-0), led by Babe Murphy with 17 points and Aaron Miller with 16. Concord hit nine 3-pointers.
The Yellow Jackets (1-2) also had balanced scoring with Brent Bauer scoring 21, Earnest Jenkins with 18, Jayson Hankins with 13 amd DeQuan Doyle with 10. Doyle also had 10 rebounds.
West Virginia State next plays at UVa-Wise Monday.

WVU WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Tynice Martin scored 19 points and Katrina Pardee added 17 to lead No. 21 West Virginia to a 69-39 win over Coppin State in Morgantown.
The Mountaineers (3-0) were never threatened, opening a 33-13 halftime advantage.
Lanay Montgomery blocked seven shots for WVU and has a block in 27 straight games and 39 out of 40. Keena Samuels had 18 points for Coppin State (0-4), which shot 15 percent (4 of 26) in the first half and 23 percent for the game.

UC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The Golden Eagles fell to UVa-Wise 83-74 Saturday in Charleston.
Taylor Sandridge and Kayla Carey led the Cavaliers (2-1) with 18 points each and Makenzie Cluesman added 17. For the Golden Eagles (1-3), Jordyn Peck hit for 25 and Abby Watson had 19.

WVSU WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The Yellow Jackets outgunned Concord 100-87 in Athens.
Four hit for double figures for the Yellow Jackets (2-2), including Rachel Ward with 21, Shealyn Shafer with 17, Jillian Fletcher with 14 and Alexus Hobbs with 10. Both Ward and Fletcher hit four of the team's 12 3-pointers.
For the Mountain Lions (1-4), Heather Chapman and Alexis Lowery led the way with 21 points each. Chapman also had 10 rebounds.

WVU TECH MEN'S SOCCER: The Golden Bears notched a 2-1 win over Olivet Nazarene (Illinois) in the opening round of the NAIA tournament in Beckley.
Francisco Neto scored to break a 1-1 tie in the 80th minute. Carlos Tormo scored Tech's first goal in the 35th minute and Marcus Wollak tied the game for Olivet Nazarene in the 51st minute.
Tech travels to Delray Beach, Florida, for an 11 a.m. Monday match with Mid-America Nazarene in the tournament's next round.

MEC VOLLEYBALL: Wheeling Jesuit won its fourth straight Mountain East Conference volleyball tournament title, defeating Fairmont State 3-0 in the finals Saturday at Wheeling.
The Cardinals (38-2) surged ahead in the first set and won 25-19. The Falcons then pushed back in the second set and had the match tied 18-18, but the Cardinals managed the next three points to pull ahead for good and close out the set 25-20. Wheeling Jesuit carried that momentum into the third set and won 25-10 to claim the title.
With the win, Wheeling Jesuit earned the automatic berth into the NCAA Division II tournament. Fairmont State, which was seventh in the regional rankings, will learn of its postseason fate during the selection show on Monday.
n Former Herbert Hoover volleyball standout and Charleston native Hannah King was named honorable mention All- Mountain East Conference while playing at West Virginia Wesleyan. The junior middle blocker and outside hitter led the Bobcats in kills with 312, blocks with 69 and hitting percentage this season.
