Matt Kinnick completed 30 of 38 passes for 367 yards and three touchdowns as West Virginia State ended its season with a 37-30 victory over West Liberty Saturday afternoon at West Family Stadium in West Liberty.
Kinnick connected with Tyrell Henderson and Quinton Gray early and often as the two receivers both went over the century mark in receiving yardage. Henderson hauled in seven passes for 150 yards and two scores and Gray grabbed 11 for 122 yards and a TD to lead the Yellow Jackets (3-8, 3-7 Mountain East Conference).
Also for State, Juawan Etheredge ran for 76 yards and two TDs on 20 carries.
The Yellow Jackets outgained West Liberty 533-506 in total yards.
Dakota Conwell led the Hilltoppers (4-7, 4-6), hitting on 25 of 45 passes for 435 yards and four TDs, while Dan Monteroso caught nine passes for 145 yards and two scores and Anton McCallum had five receptions for 119 yards and a TD.
Shepherd 38, Urbana 14: Shepherd won its third Mountain East Conference title in four years with a 38-14 win over Urbana on Saturday afternoon at UU Stadium in Urbana, Ohio.
The Rams (10-0, 10-0 MEC) went up 14-0 in the first quarter and led by at least that margin the rest of the way. Shepherd likely has locked in a top seed in Super Region 1 and is in position to host a first-round game in the NCAA Division II playoffs.
Brandon Hlavach rushed for 133 yards and three touchdowns, Jeff Ziemba threw for 298 yards and two TDs and C.J. Davis had seven grabs for 125 yards and a score for the Rams.
Marcus Graham threw for 269 yards and a TD to lead Urbana (3-8, 2-8), which was held to just 71 yards rushing.
Notre Dame 26, West Virginia Wesleyan 21: Malik Grove connected with B.J. Baldwin for a 40-yard touchdown to lift Notre Dame over West Virginia Wesleyan at Cebe Ross Field in Buckhannon.
The win caps a 9-2 (8-2 MEC) season for Notre Dame, the best in program history. Wesleyan ends the season 4-7 overall and 4-6 in the MEC.
Wesleyan led late into the fourth quarter, but the Falcons took over from their own 24 with 6:32 left and went 76 yards in just seven plays for the game-winning score. The Bobcats managed just one first down on their next drive and Notre Dame managed to hold on for the victory.
Grove finished with 251 yards passing and four touchdowns and added 50 yards on the ground. D.J. Greene rushed for 100 yards on 29 carries and Mitchell Shegos grabbed 11 passes for 101 yards and a score.
Ryan Deal tossed for 272 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead Wesleyan.
UNC Pembroke 19, Concord 18: Matt Davis' 37-yard field goal in the fourth quarter spoiled Concord's upset bid as No. 18 UNC Pembroke edged the Mountain Lions at Grace P. Johnson Stadium in Pembroke, North Carolina.
The Mountain Lions held the Braves to just six first downs and 144 yards of total offense, including just 48 passing yards. The game was tied 16-16 at the half and after three quarters, and the only points in the fourth quarter came on a safety for Concord and Davis' field goal.
Brian Novak was 14 of 22 for 179 yards passing for the Mountain Lions, while Jermeil Douse had six receptions for 120 yards.
