MEC football roundup: Glenville State sends West Virginia State to 6th straight loss

West Virginia State jumped to an early first-quarter lead but couldn't hold on as Glenville State rallied for a 43-26 home win in Mountain East Conference football play Saturday.

State lost its sixth straight in dropping to 1-7 overall and 1-7 in the MEC. Glenville moved to 4-4 and 4-3.

Matt Kinnick got State on the board with a 2-yard TD run in the first quarter before Glenville knotted the score on a 4-yard Dom Gibson run.

State took its last lead with just 1:30 remaining before the half on a 9-yard TD pass from Kinnick to Quinton Gray. The Yellow Jackets' lead didn't last long, as D.J. Williams hauled in a 34-yard pass from Dante Roberts just five seconds left in the quarter.

The Pioneers outscored State 29-13 in the second half to pull away.

Gibson led Glenville with 95 rushing yards and a pair of scores, while Roberts passed for 281 yards and four TDs. Williams hauled in two touchdown passes, while Austin Ratliff and Eric Kyle had one apiece.

For State, Kinnick led the way on the ground with 52 yards and through the air with 336 yards and three touchdowns. Tyrell Henderson paced State with a pair of scores and 90 yards receiving.

Shepherd 21, Concord 7: The Rams improved to 7-0 overall and in conference play with the easy home win. Brandon Hlavach had a pair of scoring runs, from 1 yard and 46 yards, to lead the Rams, while Jeff Ziemba added a 13-yard TD scamper for the only score of the second half.

Concord (2-6, 2-6), scored on a 23-yard second-quarter pass from Brian Novak to Davon McGill.

Fairmont State 58, UVa-Wise 3: The unbeaten Falcons scored three first-quarter touchdowns and added a safety in the quarter en route to an easy road win. Fairmont (8-0, 7-0) allowed only a third-quarter field goal to the Cavaliers (5-3, 4-3).

Cooper Hibbs paced the Falcons with 157 passing yards and three TDs, while Rakeem Darden led the way with 60 rushing yards.

Laurence King, Andre Hall and Shane Faett had touchdown catches for the Falcons, while Daniel Rodriguez, Terrell Charles, Takwan Crews-Naylor and Hibbs added TD runs.

The Falcons' defense limited Wise to just 10 first downs and 217 total offensive yards.

Notre Dame 30, West Liberty 14: The Hilltoppers scored 14 first-quarter points before Notre Dame poured on 30 unanswered points in the home win. Notre Dame moved to 7-1, 6-1, while West Liberty dropped to 3-5, 3-4.

Malik Grove tossed for 157 yards and a score, and added 47 rushing yards and another touchdown. Brian Walker piled up 99 rushing yards, including a 2-yard TD run.

West Liberty was paced by Dakota Conwell's 200 passing yards and touchdown passes to Max Kapron and Dan Monteroso.
