Glenville State entered Saturday's contest at Virginia-Wise as one of the Mountain East Conference's top rushing teams, while the Cavaliers entered one of the league's worst running defenses.
That trend did not continue, however, as Wise (2-2) limited the Pioneers (3-1) to just 49 yards on 23 rushing attempts in pulling out a 20-17 win.
The Pioneers jumped to an early 10-0 lead, but Wise rallied to take a 14-10 advantage at halftime. The teams traded third-quarter scores before finishing with a scoreless fourth.
Wise's Brycen Lee had touchdown passes to Jacob Cousins, Javonte Latney and James Cousins.
DJ Williams finished with 41 receiving yards and a score to lead Glenville, while Giles Guy-Williams added a 61-yard punt return for a score.
Shepherd 38, Notre Dame 17: The fourth-ranked Rams improved to 4-0 overall and in conference play with the road win. Notre Dame (3-1, 2-1) saw its program-record five-game winning streak. It was Shepherd's 14th straight regular-season win.
Jeff Ziemba tossed for 354 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Rams, with Billy Brown pulling in nine passes for 209 yards and both scores. Brandon Hlavach led the Rams with 103 rushing yards on 20 carries and a score.
Malik Grove led Notre Dame with 205 passing yards and two TDs.
Concord 20, West Virginia Wesleyan 17: The Bobcats won the yardage battle (396-305) but the Mountain Lions won the scoreboard with the tough road win.
Concord (2-2) got three touchdown passes from Brian Novak, who finished with 227 passing yards. Brandon Plyler had three catches and a pair of scores to pace Concord's receiving corps.
For Wesleyan (1-3), Michael Anderson rushed for a career-high 237 yards on 34 attempts, while quarterback Ryan Deal finished with 118 passing yards and two scores.
West Liberty 21, Urbana 8: The Hilltoppers led by six at the half and held the Blue Knights scoreless in the second half to pull out the road win.
Dakota Conwell threw for 287 yards and two scores to pace WL (1-3), with Anton McCallum and Ian Kelly pulling down TD passes. Conwell also finished with 27 rushing yards and another score.
For Urbana (1-3), Larry Southall pulled in a 12-yard touchdown pass from Cale Burdyshaw for the team's only score.
