MEC football: Concord rolls, sets up clash with UC

Concord scored 49 points in the first half before settling for a 59-17 win against West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday at Callaghan Stadium in Athens.

The win improved the Mountain Lions to 3-1 ahead of Thursday's Mountain East Conference showdown at the Univerity of Charleston. Concord's game at UC will be shown on ESPN3, the network's online streaming service.

The Mountain Lions rolled up 588 yards of total offense on the day. Jamal Petty had 17 carries for 170 yards and one TD, and Calvinaugh Jones found the end zone twice. Brian Novak was a tidy 11 of 16 for 226 yards and three scores.

Davon McGill led CU on defense with seven tackles, including two for a loss. Akil Bordelon and Brandon Martinez picked off passes for the Mountain Lions.

WVWC (0-4) quarterbacks combined to go just 18 of 37 for 213 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. De'shaun Burgess had two TD receptions in a loss for the Bobcats.

Shepherd 43, Notre Dame 13: Shepherd avenged last year's loss to Notre Dame in Shepherdstown.

The Rams (4-0) finished with 551 yards of total offense, including 376 through the air. Jeff Ziemba was 18 of 29 for 305 yards and two touchdowns. SU was paced on the ground by Allen Cross who had 17 carries for 98 yards, while Jabre Lolley added 84 yards on nine carries and a pair of touchdowns. Angelo Jean-Louis had three catches for 107 yards for Shepherd.

The Shepherd defense was led by 13 total tackles from Jaylen Johnson. C.J. Davis broke up three passes and Shaneil Jenkins added a sack.

NDC (1-3, 1-2 MEC) was led by Malik Grove who was 34 for 54 for 208 yards to go with a game-high 103 rushing yards and one touchdown. Cedric Hill led the Falcons on defense with eight tackles and Darius James recorded two tackles for a loss.

Glenville State 37, Virginia-Wise 21: Glenville State's Sean Steele and Dante hooked up for three touchdowns to lead the Pioneers over Virginia-Wise.

Steele finished 22 of 41 for 244 yards with the three scores, and Absher had 71 yards receiving. Ralph Gordon finished the game with seven catches for 108 yards and Rahmann Lee added 98 yards on the ground for GSC (3-1).

Wise quarterbacks finished 26 of 46 for 234 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Terrence Younger starred for the Cavs with eight catches for 136 yards and one touchdown. Zachary Blair had a big day on defense for Wise with 13 total tackles (seven solo), including five for a loss.

West Liberty 28, Urbana 12: West Liberty quarterback Dakota Conwell returned to the starting lineup to throw four touchdown passes to lead the Hilltoppers Thursday night.

Conwell finished 11 of 21 for 212 yards with the four TDs and one interception. Daree' Goodwin was on the receiving end of three of those TD passes and ended up with give catches for 125 yards. Jeremiah Ortiz had 60 yards on 15 carries on the ground for the Hilltoppers (2-3, 2-2). West Liberty outgained Urbana 493-346.
