The University of Charleston women's basketball team has added three transfers and seven freshman to its roster for the 2016-17 season, the university announced Tuesday. The group of 10 includes former Sissonville star Madison Jones, a four-time Class AA all-state selection who helped Sissonville to the 2015 state title and scored 1,827 career points in the process.
Transfers include Jordyn Peck, a graduate transfer guard from Wagner College who is sixth in Wagner history in 3-pointers made, Devin Gray, a guard from Texas State, and Alonee Durden, a guard from Lakeland Community College. Other first-year signees include guard Octavia Loll from Akron, Ohio, forward Anna Hayton from Parkersburg, guard Emily Schumacher from Waukesha, Wisconsin, guard Kendra Griffin from Asheville, North Carolina, guard MacKenzie Loos from Windermere, Florida, and guard Simone Smith from Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

WVU HOCKEY: Tickets are on sale for the upcoming West Virginia University versus University of Alabama hockey game at the South Charleston Memorial Ice Arena. The club hockey matchup is at 8 p.m. Sept. 9 with a follow-up contest at 6 p.m. Sept. 10. Tickets are available for $15 at the arena in South Charleston.

AREA GOLF: Sam O'Dell, Pat Carter, Tad Tomblin, and Adam Sholes advanced to the semifinals with a pair of match play victories in the 13th West Virginia Mid-Amateur Championship at Edgewood Country Club Tuesday.
O'Dell, the top seed, trailed by one stroke on the 18th hole before making a birdie to force extras, where he would go on to knock off Joey Seabright in 21 holes in a quarterfinal match.
In other quarterfinal action, Pat Carter, the four seed, defeated Mike Stewart, 3 and 2. Two seed Tad Tomblin knocked off Cason Edwards 4 and 3, and 19 seed Adam Sholes beat Mike Keiffer 2 and 1.
The semifinals begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday at Edgewood with O'Dell taking on Carter and Tomblin against Sholes.

UC WOMEN'S GOLF: The University of Charleston was picked to finish third in the Mountain East Conference preseason poll, behind Wheeling Jesuit and Notre Dame. The Golden Eagles finished last season with a third place finish in the MEC championship as well as the MEC Spring Classic.
