West Virginia State University has tabbed Jennifer Bulger as its interim head volleyball coach, the school announced Wednesday.

Bulger steps in for former head coach Shannon Gerencir, who left Institute to become the head coach at Lock Haven University. Bulger was a volunteer assistant coach at WVSU last season and played volleyball for the University of Charleston after starring at Capital High School.

"Since Shannon left, she's really taken ownership of the program, running the day-to-day operations and running camps," WVSU athletic director Nate Burton said of Bulger. "I'm very pleased Jennifer accepted our offer to lead the program in the 2016 season."

Burton said State will conduct a full search after the season to fill the permanent position.
