West Virginia State junior Tyler Hall was named the Mountain East Conference pitcher of the week.
Hall, a former Riverside standout, tossed a complete game shutout as the Yellow Jackets posted a 11-0 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan at home over the weekend, pitching nine innings with just four hits, six strikeouts and no walks.
LOCAL SOFTBALL
Former Herbert Herbert standout Allison Rager, now at Morehead State, was named the Ohio Valley Conference softball pitcher of the week .
Rager threw two shutouts over the weekend against UT Martin and Southeast Missouri, finishing 2-0 and not allowing a run in 14 innings. She is 12-5 on the season with a 2.83 earned run average with four shutouts, and eight complete games.
MARSHALL SOFTBALL
Junior pitcher Jordan Dixon was named the Conference USA softball co-pitcher of the week.
Dixon pitched all 19 innings in a three game sweep over the weekend against Middle Tennessee State, allowing just nine total hits, two runs with only one unearned, with 30 strikeouts and just three walks, for a 0.37 earned run average.
MARSHALL GOLF
Marshall finished the second round of the Conference USA men’s golf championships tied for eighth place with Charlotte.
Junior Clark Robinson remained the top golfer for the Herd, totalling 3-over-par 147, tying him for 12th place overall.
AREA GOLF
The second tournament of the 2016 West Virginia Golf Association Senior Series was held on Monday at Edgewood County Club with 100 golfers participating.
The Little General Stores low round of the day trophy in the senior division went to Harold Payne of Hurricane, who shot a 2-over par 73. Tom Moody finished with low gross honors in the Silver division with Bob Cook doing so in the Gold division.
