West Virginia State erupted for 35 second-half points in rolling to a 52-31 win at West Virginia Wesleyan in Mountain East Conference football action Saturday.
State improved to 2-1, while Wesleyan dropped to 0-3.
Quarterback Matt Kinnick passed for 434 yards and three scores to lead an offense that tallied 585 total yards. Kelvit Barret paced State's ground attack with 77 yards and three scores on 17 carries. Tyrone Barber also had a rushing touchdown. State's Tyrell Henderson led all receivers with 120 yards and a score on five catches.
Wesleyan also piled up yardage, finishing with 453 total yards, including 329 yards and two scores from quarterback Luke Casey. Casey also threw four interceptions.
Concord 23, Urbana 7: The Mountain Lions' defense limited visiting Urbana to just 186 total yards of offense in rolling at home.
Senior linebacker Cade Rogers led Concord (2-1) with seven tackles and two pass break-ups, as Urbana (1-2) managed just 11 first downs.
The Mountain Lions' offense was led by junior quarterback Brian Novak, who finished 23 for 34 for 224 yards and a TD. Novak needs just 58 yards to eclipse 6,000 yards for his career.
Jermeil Douse caught six passes for 122 yards and a score, while senior fullback Shaun Workinger led Concord with 73 yards on 25 tries.
Shepherd 41, Virginia-Wise 10: The 20th-ranked Rams trailed by 10 early but scored 41 unanswered points to cruise to the road win.
Shepherd (3-0) was led by quarterback Jeff Ziemba's 287 yards and three touchdowns, while backup Connor Jessup added 85 yards and another score.
Billy Brown was the Rams' favorite target, pulling in eight passes for 157 yards and a TD. Former Marshall receiver Angelo Jean-Louis caught five passes for 68 yards and a score, while Wayna Allen had a 67-yard TD reception.
Robert Morris (Pa.) 35, Notre Dame 24: The Falcons put a scare into Robert Morris, an NCAA FCS opponent, but came up just short on the road.
Notre Dame (1-2) led entering the fourth quarter, but the Colonials (1-2) scored 14 unaswered down the stretch. Matthew Barr scored the go-ahead touchdown with a 2-yard TD run with 11 minutes to play, and Mason Forrest provided an insurance score with a 9-yard interception return with 1:03 left.
