Tyree Gaiter scored 18 of his 23 points in the second half as Notre Dame overcame a seven-point halftime deficit to defeat the West Virginia State men's basketball team 91-82 Saturday afternoon at the Walker Convocation Center in Institute.
State led 42-35 at the break but was outscored 56-40 in the second half. The Falcons were 18 of 23 from the foul line, all in the final 20 minutes.
Gaiter added nine assists, while Kyauta Taylor buried six 3s for 22 points to lead Notre Dame (16-6, 10-6 Mountain East Conference).
Terrance Jenkins paced the Yellow Jackets (6-15, 4-12 MEC), converting 11 of 13 shots for 22 points, while Frank Webb scored 21 and Markee Mazyck added 17 points and 13 boards.
State next plays at Glenville State at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

UC WOMEN LOSE: The University of Charleston held Urbana to just 30.4 percent shooting from the floor, but the Blue Knights were able to pull out a 58-55 win Saturday afternoon at the Civic Center.
The Golden Eagles (8-14, 6-10 Mountain East Conference) hurt themselves with 19 turnovers to Urbana's nine and shot 32.8 percent from the floor themselves.
The two teams scored just three points in the game's final 3 minutes, all from the Blue Knights (8-12, 7-9). They came from three free throws - two from Stefanie Davis with 1:50 left that broke a 55-55 tie and one from Jazmyn Haley with 11.4 seconds left. UC had a chance to tie right before that Haley free throw, but Chryess Lockhart missed a driving layup and Kiara Johnson fouled Haley to put her on the line. An Olivia Nicholas 3-pointer with 3 seconds left also could have forced overtime, but missed the mark.
Lockhart led Charleston with 23 points, while Mya Walker added 12. Kennedy Boggs led Urbana with 23 points.

TECH WOMEN WIN: Courtney Fisher scored 18 points with nine rebounds and Alexandra Combs added 15 points as WVU Tech downed Alice Lloyd 67-62 at the Baisi Center.
The Golden Bears (14-8 overall), who began the day in last place in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Colonial Division, improved to 4-8 in the league. Alice Lloyd, in the Capital Division, fell to 10-14, 5-9.
Tech shot 42.4 percent from the floor and just 50 percent from the line, but still scored 11 from the foul line to the Eagles' three.
Alice Lloyd's Megan Jones led all scorers with 24 points and Taylor Arthur added 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Eagles.

STATE WOMEN LOSE: Despite a strong effort on the offensive end, West Virginia State fell to Notre Dame 85-78 Saturday in Institute.
The Yellow Jackets made 29 of 53 shots from the floor, including 9 of 18 3-pointers, but were outrebounded by 18 and allowed Notre Dame to score 50 points in the paint.
Rachel Ward made six 3s on her way to a team-high 18 points while Shealyn Shafer scored 17, Laura Szorenyi and Alexus both scored 11 and Deyahnna Styles and Aurreshae Hines notched 10 apiece for State (11-11, 8-8 MEC).
Lauren Langenderfer led Notre Dame (14-8, 11-5) with a game-high 25 points and Martha Nagbe notched 22.

WVU WOMEN WIN: Bria Holmes recorded 17 points, 11 rebounds and five assists as West Virginia took down Kansas State 64-44 Saturday in Morgantown.
The Mountaineers (18-6, 7-4 Big 12 Conference) shot 58 percent from the floor and outscored the Wildcats 34-22 in the paint.
Katrina Pardee and Teana Muldrow each contributed 10 points and Arielle Roberson added eight points and 13 boards for WVU.
Kindred Wesemann led Kansas State (14-8, 4-7 Big 12) with 14 points.

MARSHALL WOMEN WIN: Shayna Gore knocked down a pair of free throws with two seconds left to help Marshall escape with an 80-76 win over the University of Texas at San Antonio Saturday in Huntington.
The Herd (16-6, 6-5 Conference USA) had four players score in double figures, led by Norrisha Victrum's 19-point effort, followed by Taequia Hamilton (14), Chelsey Romero (10) and Kiana Evans (10).
Marshall shot a blistering 60 percent from the floor and made all 18 of its attempts at the foul line.
Kasia Kiejdrowska poured in a game-high 29 points to lead the Roadrunners (7-14, 3-8).

HERD SWIMMING: The Marshall swimming and diving team placed second with a score of 277 Saturday at the Marshall Invitational in Huntington.
Ohio won the event with a score of 356, while Toledo placed third with 215 points.
Junior diver Megan Wolons won the 3-meter event with a pool-record 331.95 and swept both dive events this weekend to lead the Herd. Marshall finished second in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:32.64) and the 200 free relay (1:37.37).
