CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A pair of University of Charleston softball players took home Mountain East Conference weekly honors Monday. Catcher Bethany Williams was named MEC player of the week, while Courtney Fain was named pitcher of the week.
Williams, a freshman from Cooper City, Fla., went 8-for-18 (.444) as the Golden Eagles went 6-0 last week. She had three doubles and belted a home run, while driving in 11 and scoring six times.
Fain, a senior from Urbana, Ohio, went 3-0 in three appearances for UC. She opened the week with a two-hit, complete-game shutout against West Virginia State in which she struck out 15. She then followed that up with a perfect game against West Liberty striking out 11 of the 15 batters she faced.
She closed the week fanning 14 batters and giving up just three hits in a win over Wheeling Jesuit. She had a 1.11 ERA on the week striking out 40 and allowing just five hits in 19 innings of work.
